About
About Head Untangled
Narrated, illustrated explainers about the hard bits of mental health and neurodivergence in adults.
What it is
Head Untangled is a YouTube channel. Each video is eight to twelve minutes long and takes one experience at a time: burnout, anxiety, low mood, rejection sensitivity, alexithymia, masking, ADHD, autism, late diagnosis. It explains why it happens, what it looks like in real life, and what actually helps.
The examples come from the kinds of things people describe in their own words, not from textbooks. Some end neatly. Some don't, because real life often doesn't.
Who writes it
Written by a UK-registered mental health nurse with over twenty years in inpatient services. I have ADHD, and I was diagnosed late, as an adult.
You won't see my face. You'll see the Guide, drawn to look a bit like me. The scripts and the clinical judgement are mine; the pictures are illustrated and animated with generative tools to a design I control, and the narration is a studio voice, not my own. I'll always say so.
Who you'll see
The Guide presents every video from a calm, uncluttered office. Alongside him are four characters who turn up across the videos:
- Maya, a teacher who was diagnosed last year.
- Dev, a developer who is autistic and has ADHD.
- Rob, a site foreman who is burnt out and isn't calling it that.
- Sam, Maya's partner, who asks the questions most people are thinking.
They are drawn characters, made up to show common patterns. None of them is a real person or a case.
What it isn't
Head Untangled is educational. It isn't diagnosis, therapy or medical advice, and it can't tell you what's going on for you personally. Nothing here covers medication doses or whether to start or stop a medicine: that's a conversation for your prescriber.
It also isn't a service. There are no calls, coaching or one-to-one support, and I can't reply to personal questions about symptoms or treatment.
Life Regulation Lab
Head Untangled is by Life Regulation Lab, which makes tools and resources for neurodivergent adults. The channel and Life Regulation Lab share the same approach: plain language, practical tools, and no blame.
